You may have figured out by now that your tweezers make a huge difference in the speed and quality of your work. They also affect how well you pick up fans, create fans, hold onto fans, and manoeuvre natural lashes—they are your tools of trade.

Over the years of being lash educators, we've realised that what we might think is a perfect tweezer for us wouldn’t be the best fit for our students. This could be due to hand size, shape, wrist, etc. So even though you were trained with a specific Lash Extension tweezer, there may be something better and more comfortable for you. There are A LOT of different lash tweezers on the market, and understanding what each one is best suited for will give you a better idea of which ones will work best for you.

This blog we will delve into the practical aspects of lash extension tweezers. We'll explore the various types used in the industry, their specific applications, and most importantly, how to care for them to ensure their longevity and optimal performance.

As a lash extension artist, you'll use two pairs of tweezers: one to isolate the natural lashes and the other to pick up or create a lash fan and apply it.
Let's talk about tweezer tips, what they look like, what they are best suited for and what to avoid using them for.

Straight Lash Extension Tweezers
Style: Straight with a sharp, narrow tip
Use: Isolating natural lashes
Avoid: Using these tweezers to pick up lashes
Straight tweezers are the OG of all lash extension tweezers. For a very long time, they were the go-to tweezers for every lash artist; however, as with everything, lash extension tweezers have also evolved, and there are many better options now if you struggle with isolating with straight tweezers.

 Isolate Lash Extension Tweezers
Style: Curved to follow the natural curve of the eyelid
Use: Isolating natural lashes during the application process
Avoid: This tweezer is not suitable for picking up lashes
Curved tweezers are shaped to follow the natural curve of the eyelid, giving you a clear line of sight of the lash line. The sharp tip lets you rest the tweezers onto the eye pad for a more comfortable and sturdier grip to isolate the natural lash.

Precise Isolate Lash Extension Tweezers
Style: Straight tweezer stem with a precise tip
Use: Isolating natural lashes during the application process
Avoid: This tweezer is not suitable for picking up lashes
Precise Isolate Tweezers are designed to isolate and separate the finest natural lashes during application. Their fine and delicate tip allows easy and precise isolation while resting comfortably on the lash pads. Tips open wide enough to ensure the proper placement of the lash extension fan.

Ultra Fine Lash Extension Tweezers
Style: Angled between 90-120 degrees with mini tips.
Used: Isolating natural lashes
Avoid: Unsuitable for hand making fans
These are a crowd favourite, the ultra fine tips make it easier to isolate the finest of natural lashes.

Pick up Lash Extension Tweezers
Style: The tip angle varies between 90 -120 degrees.
Tip length varies, 1cm is the industry standard.
Used: To pick up a lash fan
Avoid: Unsuitable for isolation as the opening is limited and the tips are thicker, obstructing your view.
As the name suggests, pick-up lash tweezers are designed to pick up lash extension fans. The tips are made to close completely to ensure they grip the fan completely and do not damage it while picking it up from the tile.

Mini Pick-up Lash Extension Tweezers
Style: Angled between 90-120 degrees. Tips are thinner and shorter than traditional pick-up tweezers, hence the name “mini"
Used: To pick up a lash fan Unsuitable for hand making fans
As the name suggests, pick-up lash tweezers are designed to pick up lash extension fans. The tips are made to close completely to ensure they grip the fan completely and do not damage it while picking it up from the tile.

 Volume Lash Extension Tweezers
Style: Similar to a pick-up tweezer with a more 90 degree angel.
Use: To create/ handmake your own fans, classic pickups
Avoid: Unsuitable for isolation as the opening is limited and tips are thicker, obstructing your view.

Tweezer Care
Caring for your tweezers should be a top priority.

Tweezer Cleanse
Tweezers must always be clean and hygienic. Always disinfect your lash tweezers between clients. Alcohol wipes and tweezer cleanser are perfect for this. Tweezer cleanser is also used to get rid of glue dots. The tweezer cleanser breaks down the glue and gets the tweezers sparkling again. Working with glue on your tweezers will affect your grip and potentially damage your lash fans.

 Tweezer Stands & Cases
Store your tweezers on your trolley in a tweezer stand or a tweezer case. So they remain hygienically clean, and the tips are always protected. We recommend always having a spare set of tweezers so that you have a backup option in case one becomes damaged.

Lash Pillows
If tweezers are dropped, they can become blunt or bent. Damaged tweezers are no use to you! They can ruin lash fans, slow you down, and potentially cause injury. Always treat your tweezers with care. Invest in a pillow that has side pockets to hold your tweezers when not in use.
