Lash Extension Myths & Facts

Are you curious about lash extensions but worried by horror stories from friends of friends? We’re here to separate fact from fiction and give you the confidence you need before booking your appointment.

Myth 1: Lash extensions damage your natural lashes

Fact: When applied and cared for properly, extensions won’t harm your natural lashes—in fact, they can last even longer with the right maintenance.
Tip: Always choose a qualified lash artist with a solid reputation. Extremely cheap lash deals often mean shortcuts in application and/or cheap products. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Myth 2: I can’t have lash extensions because I wear glasses

Fact: Lash artists tailor each set to your eye shape and lifestyle. If you wear glasses, opt for a curl like a D-curl and moderate lengths to prevent rubbing against your lenses.

Myth 3: Lash extensions require high maintenance

Fact: Your lashes will hold beautifully for 2–4 weeks. After that, a quick infill appointment is all you need—no more mascaras or daily strip-lash fiddling!

Myth 4: I can’t wet my lashes after extensions

Fact: Modern adhesives and an artist lash that uses lash bonders let you shower, wash your face, and even swim immediately. We do recommend a gentle lash shampoo to keep them clean, fluffy, and free from buildup.

Myth 5: Extensions are painful or uncomfortable

Fact: Properly applied extensions should feel lightweight and seamless. Each lash fan is adhered to a single natural lash with a precision adhesive, so you shouldn’t feel any pulling or poking.

Myth 6: The glue will trigger an allergic reaction

Fact: True allergic reactions are rare. Symptoms (redness, swelling, itching) often stem from other sensitivities like hay fever. If you’re prone to watery eyes, do a patch test and/or take a compatible antihistamine before your appointment.

Myth 7: My natural lashes will fall out

Fact: Your lashes grow and shed on a natural cycle—extensions simply mimic that cycle. You may notice more fallout some weeks than others; this is just normal shedding.

Myth 8: I can’t wear makeup with extensions

Fact: Go ahead and rock your favourite eyeshadow and liner! Just be sure to cleanse gently with a lash-friendly shampoo to remove makeup and oils before bedtime.

Myth 9: Washing my lashes shortens their lifespan

Fact: Skipping cleaning can actually weaken both extensions and natural lashes. Regular washing removes dirt, oil, and debris that can degrade your adhesive.

Pro Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Do your research: Ask for referrals or browse your artist’s Instagram portfolio.
  • Value reflects quality: Budget lashes often mean budget results.
  • Clean and comb: Lash shampoo + a daily brush = longer-lasting, healthier lashes.
  • Consult first: Your artist should perform a thorough consultation to select the perfect curl, length, and style for your eyes.
